This is a very old—antique, necklace that is absolutely beautiful. It has three strands of small chunky coral pieces that are knotted off to a floral embellished folding clasp that is marked “China”.

I see a lot of vintage pieces made with coral, but this one has the raw cylinder beads that are beautifully imperfect and authentically vintage, which is more difficult for me to find. You can feel the age with the smoothness of this piece, but the care that has been given to it over the years is what had me.

The necklace sits comfortably with a weight that feels substantial, but without effort, and the beads have the sweet variation of red that is true to the ocean. It reminds me of when I visited the pearl markets of China where I worked with the amazing women who hand-knotted strands of beads for some custom necklaces.

The coral is very old, which is the only reason why it is part of the collection, and is a more rare opportunity to bring in a piece that has been loved and was lovingly hand-tied by someone many years ago.
